Designed by world-renowned golf players David Thomas and Jack Nicklaus, the 18-hole, 72 par Mar Menor golf course is suitable for golfers of all abilities – there’s a challenge for everyone! The first 9 holes were designed by David Thomas over 3,275 metres, which demand precise strokes to navigate the greens that are well protected by bunkers and lakes around the course.

Bar far the toughest hole, the par-4 3rd hole features two fairway bunkers to the left and a large lake to the right that must be avoided. That combined with the greenside bunker at the short of the green, which comes into play during the second shot, the Mar Menor course is sure to keep players on their toes.

The second half of the course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, has wide courses and roughs that allow for big strokes, and a large lake around holes 13, 14, and 15. As for the rest of the holes, they are protected by well-situated bunkers, but none present a challenge quite like the lake.

Popular with families, couples and golfers, Mar Menor Golf Resort villas are a tranquil escape all year round. With everything from restaurants, swimming pools and a well-stocked supermarket, there’s everything you need on-site for a holiday to remember. Discover villas to rent at the Mar Menor Golf Resort.

2. Mijas Golf Resort

It’s the largest golf resort in the country!

Campo America is the first of the three 18-hole courses and boasts strategic sand bunkering, crushed marble filled traps and hilly topography, adding another degree of difficulty for those who like a challenge. This par 72 course is situated at the foot of the Mijas mountains, between Marbella and Malaga, and with five par 5s, it requires the most precision of the three.

With plenty of challenging holes, Campo Asia is sure to guarantee a testing round for even the most competent of players. The 5,925 metre course is highly respected by professionals with four par 5 holes, which demand skill and strategy. A two-tiered, L-shaped green protected by three bunkers at the rear await at the 2nd hole, whilst the 8th hole lies within a valley surrounded by sand traps and grass hollows. Look out for hole 12, which has a pear-shaped putting surface with a swale running through the middle.

The last of the three courses, Campo Europa, opened in 2005 and is a testament to Robinson’s matured architecture, proving that he is one of the best designers to date. Hole 4 is one of the strongest par 4s ever to be played – tee off into a narrow fairway in the distance, which is interrupted by a river that runs along the entire left flank and a mountain scrub that guards the right flank.
